ABOUT

Hello! I am Nancy Purvis, and thank you for stopping by.  owen's olivia started back in 2011 when I was looking for an outlet to connect with the world and share what I could do.  As a stay-at-home mom with an infant, I was able to spend my time crafting, teaching myself how to sew and quilt, and working on DIY projects to update my home.

Once a sewing and home DIY blog, owen's olivia has turned its focused on quilting due to the writing of my quilt book, but my love for design is always prominent on my blog and in my life.

I am a self-taught quilter who has learned to do things my own way.  Sometimes I fail and make mistakes, but I wholeheartedly believe that is a good thing because that is how we learn and grow.

I will always encourage you to be your best self in quilting and to do what suits you best.  To motivate you to try something new and not let the world dictate to you how to do it.  I firmly believe we are all artists in some way.

My aesthetic in quilting is modern.  I enjoy working improvisationally as well minimal and patterns that are geometric. I believe that my work has evolved over time to express me.  To see a wide variety of my work, it is best visit me on Instagram.

Here at owen's olivia you will find a mix of tutorials and quilt finishes, as well as the home DIY projects I've done in the past. Blogging has decreased over time due to the demands of life with two young children, but I will always keep this blog up and available to the public. The day I have to stop being creative will be the day I die.

I do have a website, Nancy Purvis, that has my portfolio of work and a shop where you can purchase some goods.

I am glad you are here.  If you need to contact me, please fill out this contact form.

xx nancy

  2. I stumbled across your blog for August 2012 detailing your search for a new sewing machine, and it mirrors my dilemma -- Bernina or Janome!! I didn't search the rest of blog to see the results of your survey. . .so, what did you decide??? Which machine did you end up purchasing? Thanks!!

  4. Thanks for the Bernina or Janome post and the comments too, it has been invaluable.
I have used 3 different 2nd hand sewing machines and now as my 3rd one needs to go to the repair shop again, I'm thinking that my husband and mum are right when they say I need a new sewing machine! I am thinking the same with regards to loads of stiches might be fun but I only use zigzag and straight stitch! plus, I know a computer can embroider, but where is the skill and fun in that?! Plus, it's well expense and I like fixing things, patches is a particular love and my children LOVE it! in fact my youngest has two pairs of trousers with white patches on his trousers and if these are in the wash, he tells me he has no trousers to wear!!! I think it's because he can do as much skidding as he likes! Anyway I'm nowhere near buying yet, but I wanted to let you know how helpful this was and I am glad I have stubbled across your blog woo hoo! thankyou xxxxx
